Citizens of the World Charter School is a public charter institution that provides K through 12 education to children living in Sawtelle and the surrounding communities. As a charter school it operates with greater curriculum flexibility while remaining tuition free and accountable to the same academic standards as traditional district schools. Families who select this school often value its emphasis on project based learning, multilingual instruction and a global perspective that connects classroom work to real world issues. Enrollment is open to any resident of the district and admission is determined by a random lottery when spaces are limited. The campus on Gateway Boulevard supports multi age classrooms where students collaborate on interdisciplinary units and receive individualized support from credentialed teachers. Because the school day follows a modified calendar with longer breaks between terms many families plan around its rhythm for travel and enrichment activities. Parents typically choose this school for its innovative approach language immersion opportunities and commitment to student voice and community engagement. For those exploring local education options Citizens of the World Charter School offers a distinct alternative to neighborhood schools and draws families from across the Westside region who seek a learning environment centered on curiosity collaboration and cultural awareness. Information about application deadlines events and student support services can be found online and the school can be reached by phone for additional details.
