Software Engineer, Ceph & Distributed Storage

Canonical, a globally distributed open-source software company best known for Ubuntu, is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Ceph and distributed storage within its Cloud Engineering team. The role focuses on building modeling software for OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes to enable scalable production systems, with collaboration across engineering and field teams serving enterprise customers adopting cutting-edge technology. This remote-first position is based in either the EMEA or Americas regions and involves international travel of approximately one week every few months for team alignment meetings. Candidates will develop high-quality Python and Golang applications, debug complex issues, maintain technical documentation for operator best practices, and contribute to the lifecycle management of Ceph storage solutions. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a STEM field, has proven experience with modern Python development and Ceph storage systems, and thrives in a collaborative, globally distributed engineering environment that values curiosity, accountability, and strong soft skills. This role offers participation in yearly in-person team gatherings in varied global locations while maintaining a fully remote work structure.
